Dark Sky Wadden Events organiseert unieke waarnemingsavonden op Terschelling en Ameland, de donkerste plekken van Nederland. Bij helder weer kunt u genieten van een prachtige sterrenhemel, ver weg van het storende licht van de steden. Tevens is het mogelijk om waar te nemen door een geavanceerde telescoop. De waarnemingsavonden zijn bedoeld voor het brede publiek en worden georganiseerd door een professioneel sterrenkundige.
Dit initiatief is in de zomer van 2023 op Terschelling gestart. Voor een deelnemers impressie: zie de reviews onderaan het programma. Mooi om te zien dat er zoveel belangstelling en enthousiasme is voor het waarnemen van de sterrenhemel in een donkere omgeving!
De eerstvolgende reeks waarnemingsavonden vindt plaats op Terschelling in februari 2024, met als thema de wintersterrenhemel bij volle maan. Rond volle maan is de Melkweg niet waarneembaar, maar dit is wel bij uitstek een gelegenheid om de helderste sterren goed te leren kennen. U krijgt uitleg over de heldere sterren die samen de Winterzeshoek vormen, we gaan met de telescoop de planeet Jupiter met zijn manen waarnemen, en we gaan bij maanlicht een stuk door de duinen wandelen.

Dark Sky Wadden Events organizes unique astronomy observation events on the Dutch Wadden Islands Terschelling and Ameland. While most of The Netherlands has a lot of light pollution, the northern part of the country fortunately still provides a dark sky environment. The eastern part of Terschelling is designated as official Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association, with dark sky conditions comparable to the night sky desert conditions in for example the USA and Chile.
The dark sky events are organized by a professional astronomer. During clear skies you may enjoy the impressive Milky Way and observe planets or distant galaxies through an advanced telescope. The presentation will take approximately one hour and can be translated in English on request. The motion of Sun, Moon and planets will be explained, you will get insight in the awesome distances of the brightest stars, as well as the stories behind the main constellations. Also the usage of star charts and apps will be demonstrated. It’s an introductory presentation for all ages. A walk through the dunes near the beach is included as well. Tickets can be booked through this website, and for the observation events on Terschelling also through the VVV Terschelling. If the weather conditions are less favourable, your booking will be refunded or may be rescheduled to another evening. Enjoy your stay in this impressive part of The Netherlands!
